Come along to a waste and recycling service roadshow near you

A roadshow offering advice on Tewkesbury Borough's new recycling and waste service will be touring from today.

Tewkesbury Borough Council's recycling officers and ward councillors will be manning the roadshows – and they will be on hand to demonstrate the new bin and caddies, as well as answer questions about the new service and any recycling queries.

There will also be advisors available to answer questions on composting and on the Real Nappy Project, which encourages the use of reusable nappies.

The new service, which starts on Monday, 12 April, allows extra materials to be recycled and will encourage residents to recycle all food waste.

During March and April, households will receive blue-wheeled bins and food waste caddies to use in addition to their green-wheeled bins:

Blue bin: The blue wheeled bin will replace the current green recycling box. Providing the blue bin means residents will be able to recycle plastic bottles and cardboard, as well as everything else they recycle now.

Food caddies: The two caddies will be used for food waste. The small caddy is for use in the kitchen to collect the food waste. The large caddy will store the food waste that is collected in the small caddy for a weekly collection. The food waste will be recycled in to compost.

Green bin: The green-wheeled bin will be for any remaining landfill waste that can't be recycled or composted.

It will still be a weekly collection service, which will look like this:

Week 1: Food waste and green bin

Week 2: Food waste and blue bin

Residents will be told which collection will come first.

Tewkesbury Borough Council hopes to reach a recycling rate of over 60 per cent with this new service – which has already been achieved by other Councils using the same scheme.

Tewkesbury Borough Council's Lead Member for Clean and Green Environment Cllr Jim Mason said: "I really recommend heading down to one of the roadshows to find out more about the new recycling and waste service.

"It's absolutely vital that our residents understand the huge benefits that go alongside recycling more and sending less to landfill.

"The friendly team will be able to answer questions and the new bins will be available for demonstrations."
