Housing Development : Housing Development

There are currently over 35,000 homes in the borough and, according to the draft Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS), this is due to increase by over 14,000 between now and the year 2026.

The vast majority of the homes in the borough are owner occupied (78.5%) with the remainder being rented from Housing Associations and private landlords.

The level of home ownership within the borough is higher than the national average of 68.9%, but is similar to the other districts in Gloucestershire.

The Council transferred its own housing stock of 3,100 homes in April 1998 to Severn Vale Housing Society Ltd and whilst the council no longer has a landlord role, it still has a significant role to play in influencing the housing conditions within the Borough.
