Tewkesbury Borough Council is a Fourth Option Authority which runs an Executive & Scrutiny Political Structure. This Structure has been in place since November 2007 and is due to be reviewed by 30 April 2009. County Council functions are run from Shire Hall in Gloucester, and include responsibility for education, social services and highways. It is the responsibility of each district to consider detailed policies for their area.

Tewkesbury Borough Council covers an area of approx. 160 square miles, and has a population of about 77,000. Some 33,000 of these are council tax payers. There are 38 Councillors who are elected to form the Council and serve the Community.
