Commons

Longwood and Stockwell Commons are located just off the B4632 on Cleeve Hill, north of Cheltenham. Both sites have small parking areas with spectacular views over Bishops Cleeve, the Severn Valley and the Malvern Hills beyond. There are many public footpaths that can be accessed from the Commons, which link into circular routes connecting a number of features of environmental and historical interest.
Stockwell Common drops away from the viewpoint parking area on the B4632, where a path winds down to a picnic area with tables, just below the viewpoint. There is also a public toilet on the opposite side of the road.
Cleeve Common offers an excellent view of the Severn Vale to the forest of Dean, the Malverns and beyond to the Black Mountains and the Brecons. This Common lies within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its unique wildlife and geology.
Longwood Common car park and viewpoint is approximately half a mile along the land off the B4632, opposite the entrance to Cleeve Hill Golf Club. A rare type of habitat, known as 'unimproved Jurassic limestone grass land' dominates the common, which occupies both sides of the road. The Cotswolds contains over 50% of the national resource of this type of habitat, which is one of the most diverse in the country, supporting a vast variety of plant life - almost 100 species have been recorded.
